154 days elapsed George Floyd's murder and the ensuing protests — the catalyst for most white folks' commitment to allyship and antiracism — and Walter Wallace Jr's murder.

3. let's do a quick exercise.
4. this color represents a day that you pracitced your best version of allyship. this color represents a day that you didn't do anything to advance antiracism or practice allyship. using those two anchors, think about the gradient of your allyship.
6. this is the trend in white people's allyship that i've noticed over the past 154 days.
7. may 25th George Floyd is killed by police officers

your solidarity shouldn’t follow the news cycle. your solidarity shouldn’t require you to witness a viral video of a Black man being killed. your solidarity shouldn’t be predicated on the loss of another Black life.

unfortunately i’ve had to update this graphic to include Walter Wallace Jr.’s death since the last time i posted this. this is who and what we’re fighting for. this is why we’re voting. this is why we’re still protesting. nothing substantial has changed since George Floyd’s death. and more Black men and Black people will continue to be killed by state sanctioned violence until we come up with meaningful solutions (defunding the police is a first step).

what might it look like to have a dark blue allyship day? voting. protesting. talking to family members or friends or neighbors who are voting for trump. calling out racism EVERY single time you see it, even if (ESPECIALLY if) it makes you or them uncomfortable. breaking white solidarity. participating in mutual aid. donating — to fundraisers, to individuals, to politicians. being an active member of your community. educating yourself. educating others. using your power and privilege to protect people without it. stopping and filming or physically intervening if you see a Black person interacting with police officers. using your social media platform to amplify these issues (saying “i don’t want to get political” is upholding racism and white supremacy, and your Black followers see right through you). phone banking. text banking. supporting Black businesses and divesting from companies that rely on prison labor. supporting your Black friends — and not just after the most recent act of police brutality.

rest in power, Walter Wallace Jr. the fight continues.

Image Description

There are ten slides. A grid of multicolored dots is initially used to display dates, but substituted for a grid of dots using a white-to-navy gradient key to demonstrate no allyship (white) to concrete action (navy). Arrows point at days on the calendar to connect captions. The three final slides are set in large colored circles.
